Course Overview
The BAS Agent Skill Set is a nationally recognised skill set for individuals who wish to work as registered BAS agents. This skill set is designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills required to manage business activity statements (BAS) and other tax compliance obligations on behalf of their clients.
Becoming a registered BAS agent can open a range of career opportunities for individuals who have a passion for numbers and an eye for detail. This skill set provides students with the knowledge and skills required to work as a BAS agent and help their clients comply with their taxation obligations.
Upon completion of the course, students will need to apply to the Tax Practitioners Board (TPB) for registration as a BAS agent. Once registered, BAS agents can provide BAS services. This course meets the education requirements of the Tax Practitioners Board for becoming a BAS Agent as a Tax Practitioners Board Approved course.

- FNSTPB411 – Complete business activity and instalment activity statements
- FNSTPB412 – Establish and maintain payroll systems
Entry requirements
While there are no formal prerequisites for this course, to ensure you get the most out of your learning experience with us, the following requirements must be met:
- You must be 18 years of age or older at the time of enrolment and must have sufficient English language skills to complete the course.
- You should possess basic technological literacy and have access to the Microsoft Office suite or an equivalent software package.
Course Duration
Students will have a maximum of six (6) months to complete the course via online, self-paced learning.
The course start date is taken as the date students receive the course material. If students do not complete the course within the six (6) month timeframe, the enrolment will be cancelled. Students may apply for an extension for an extra fee. Please refer to the student handbook for details on requesting extensions.
TPB Approved Course

This course meets the Tax Practitioners Board (TPB) education requirements to become a registered BAS agent. Experience criteria also apply (please see TPB website for further information).
Accounting Software

This course uses the Student Account of the Accounting Software, Xero. Students will have free access to Xero as part of the course.

Credit Transfer

Career Outcomes
Upon completion of this skill set, individuals could pursue the following careers:
- BAS Agent: As a BAS agent, you’re authorised to provide services such as preparing and lodging business activity statements and instalment activity statements, providing advice about the entities’ obligations under the GST law, and representing entities to the Commissioner of Taxation in relation to these statements. This course meets the Tax Practitioners Board (TPB) education requirements to become a registered BAS agent. Experience criteria also apply (please see TPB website for further information).
- Payroll Officer: The course provides fundamental knowledge in tax-related issues, which could help in a role as a payroll officer.
- Accounting Support Roles: With the understanding of the taxation system and BAS, you could assist in various accounting roles, providing essential support to certified accountants or finance teams.

International/Overseas Students
Those possessing Subclass 500 visas, or any visas that expire on or before the anticipated course completion date, are not eligible to enrol with AUSCBT.
If any individual with a Subclass 500 visa or a visa that has a conflicting expiration date attempts to register, the enrolment will be cancelled and an administration fee of 25% will be charged to any student attempting to enrol.
